Prue was the eldest daughter of Patricia Halliwell and Victor Bennett, and the first granddaughter of Penelope Halliwell. Her sisters Piper and Phoebe, and half-sister Paige, were born soon after. Together with Piper and Phoebe, Prue made up the original trio of "Charmed Ones", though they were unaware of this in their early lives. After the death of their mother, the girls were taken in by their grandmother, and Prue helped to raise Piper and Phoebe. As a young woman, she attended Gold State University, living with Piper in an apartment during this time. She sought employment at a museum, and became engaged to her boss, but broke their engagement when he flirted with her sister, Phoebe. When her grandmother became ill, Prue returned to the familial home in San Francisco along with her sisters. Penelope died, and soon the three women learned of their heritage, gaining magical powers from the Book of Shadows. Prue and her sisters embrace their destiny to fight evil and protect the innocent with their powers.
Powers and Abilities
As a witch, Prue is capable of a variety of magical skills, including spell casting, potion making, and scrying. She can wield these magical powers to a variety of effects. As a member of the Charmed Ones, she is capable of telekinesis and astral projection. Notably, in her astral form, she is able to interact with the physical world, though she cannot use telekinesis in this form. Prue is also very intelligent and has shown proficiency in Latin and history. She is a capable hand-to-hand combatant.
Basic Powers
- Spell Casting: The ability to cast spells and perform rituals. Prue's spell-casting ability has been dramatically enhanced by her power of reality-warping, allowing her to cast spells as powerful (if not more) as the Charmed Ones.
- Potion Brewing: The ability to brew potions.
- Scrying: The ability to locate a person or object by use of a scrying crystal, a map, and sometimes other tools.
- Mediumship: The ability to see and commune with the spirits of the dead.
Witch Powers
Telekinesis - The ability to move objects and beings with the mind. This was Prue's primary ability as a witch which she could channel with her eyes and later hands. When she became the caretaker of the Nexus of the All, she used this ability to close the manor doors.
- Telematerialization: The ability to use telekinesis to teleport liquids.
- Deviation: The ability to use a power to deflect magical energies and objects back in the direction they came from. Prue was able to push attacks or powers back telekinetically.
- Enhanced Agility: The ability to enhance one's physical agility, speed, and balance. Prue achieves this ability through the use of Telekinesis and was able to perform enhanced acrobatics. Prue was shown to be very skilled in this ability and often combined her agility with her physical strength.
- Super Strength: The power to exert a level of physical strength much greater than that of a normal person. Prue demonstrated this a number of times to best enemies in close combat by combining her telekinetic power with her physical force.
- Advanced Telekinesis: The power to produce powerful waves of telekinetic energy and to use telekinesis with potentially explosive force. After returning to Earth and inhabiting the body of Patience, it was shown that Prue's telekinetic powers had grown to a highly advanced level.
Astral Projection - The ability to project one's consciousness into an astral form outside the body. Prue first developed this power during her second year as a witch as an advancement of her telekinesis. She later demonstrated this power as the caretaker of the Nexus of the All when she astral projects to the Astral Plane.
Spirit Powers
- Wisping: A method of teleportation exclusive to ghosts. Prue used this power to return with Andy to the afterlife.
- Intangibility: The ability to be intangible and move through solid objects.
- Invisibility: The ability to be unseen by the naked eye. Prue was invisible to her sisters when she and Andy were watching them.
- Possession: The ability to enter the body of another being and possess it. Prue used this power to take over Patience's comatose body.
Other Powers
Immortality: The power to live an infinitely long lifespan and an arrested ageing process. She's immortal as long as she stays in the Nexus.
Natural Abilities
- Antique Specialist: Prue was knowledgeable in antiques from ancient archaeology to a Yankee baseball card. She can examine an artefact and easily recognize it either as a real object or a fake.
- Fluency in Latin: Prue was fluent in the Latin language as she was able to decipher spells and quote many texts.
- Expert Hand-to-Hand Combatant: Though it was not shown or revealed during her early years as a witch, Prue was formidably skilled in hand-to-hand combat, which came into play during her fights against Vinceres and, later, the Demonic Wrestlers, where she was shown to use her telekinetic powers to enhance her combat skills. Given how she was never shown taking martial arts classes on screen, and yet her combat skills were revealed to be far superior to those of Phoebe (the only sister shown to have taken self-defence classes), it is likely that Prue had actually taken up martial arts long before she became a Charmed One, but only applied her combat skills once she had become fully comfortable with her powers.
